Morrison Kimmeridgian Environment Diagram (sketch) by Tomozaurus Morrison Kimmeridgian Environment Diagram (sketch) by Tomozaurus
I don't have much time to do full pieces at the moment, so here is another raw scan of a basic sketch.

This diagram represents the basic layout of the Kimmeridgian aged middle Morrison formation, about 154 million years ago. A semi-arid "savannah" of ferns and bennettitales covered much of the land. Forests on Ginkgo and relatives grew along the waterways which snaked across the plain and forests of cheirolepidiaceous conifers grew in elevated areas surrounding the proto-Rocky Mountains. Large salt plains existed in areas where the Western Interior Seaway had retreated earlier in the Jurassic. The climate was warm, with notable wet and dry seasons, the latter of which could result in long periods of intense drought.

Palaeoecology!  Awesome.  This is the stuff that I am really interested in but it can be hard to find good information...

This inspired me to make a similar thing for the Chinese Tiaojishan formation.
Is that okay?

It won't of course be the same.

Thank you very much! Can you draw something similar for some other formations?

This is really excellent. I wish more people would draw diagrams of the flora like this. Are you going to do any more for other formations?

Good idea for me.
I might do that with the Tiaojishan formation if I find enough information....

That's honestly a very nice idea.

So extremely useful!
I really had problems envisioning the flora from the Morisson formation. Really helps me imagine it better.

Awesome representation, Tomozaurus! I am working on a reconstruction of the Kem Kem beds (Cenomanian), and the work you do on paleoecosystem reconstruction is an inspiration of mine.

I love this. The Morrison is my favorite formation, and not enough people do things like this. It is awesome.
